The Eindhoven Marathon (Dutch: De Lage Landen Marathon Eindhoven ) is a marathon in Eindhoven that has been held every two years since 1982 and annually in October since 1990. With over 1000 runners reaching the finish, it is the third largest marathon in the Netherlands after the Rotterdam Marathon and the Amsterdam Marathon . The event also includes a marathon relay , a half marathon and a 6-kilometer run, as well as a 3-kilometer run for children.

history

The Eindhoven Marathon had already been held twice in 1959 and 1960 under the name Lichtstad Marathon , in 1960 as the Dutch championship. At that time only men were allowed to start. The number of participants ranged between 50 and 60 runners. After that, the event was suspended for 22 years.

In 1982 the Eindhoven Marathon was revived to mark the city's 750th anniversary. Women were now allowed to start too. Although planned as a one-off event, it was subsequently held every two years and every year from 1990 onwards. The number of participants increased continuously. In 2010 the Eindhoven Marathon had a total of around 18,500 participants in all competitions.

In the years 1997 to 2000 and 2008 the Dutch marathon championships were held as part of the Eindhoven marathon.
