The San Silvestre Vallecana is a road race that has been held in Madrid on New Year's Eve since 1964 . For organization since 1978 also includes a fun run , which now belongs to the most participants worldwide.
Women have been at the start since 1981. The route length has been 10 km since 1998. A qualification time of 38 (men) or 45 minutes (women) must be achieved for the road run. The starting places for the fun run are limited to 29,000.
Because of the steep gradient of the course, the times achieved are not suitable for the best list.
route
Both races start in the Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones near the Santiago Bernabeu stadium . Via the avenue de Concha Espina, the calle Serrano and the calle Vitruvio , after two kilometers you reach the Paseo de la Castellana . At its southern end you cross the Plaza de Colón . Via the Paseo de Recoletos we continue to the Plaza de Cibeles and the Museo del Prado , which is reached after approx. 5 km. At the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, north of Madrid Atocha train station , turn south-east into Avenue de la Ciudad de Barcelona . On the other side of the M-30 ring road, one and a half kilometers from the finish, the paths split: the road runners arrive at the Estadio Teresa Rivero , for the popular runners the race is over further south on the Calle de Candilejas next to the Parque Fofó .
The net gradient between start and finish is 50 meters in altitude .
