biography

Like his sister Dominique, Gisin attended the sports school in Engelberg . He lives in Engelberg.

He contested his first FIS races in December 2003 . It took a relatively long time before he could classify in the front field. It was only after a year that he was among the top 30 for the first time and the first top 10 place was not achieved until March 2006. After he was accepted into the Swiss Ski Association's squad, Gisin drove his first European Cup race in December 2006 and in March 2007 he took part Altenmarkt took part in the Junior World Championships , where he achieved positions around 30th. In the 2007/08 season Gisin already competed in numerous European Cup races, but did not yet make it into the top 30 and thus did not win any points. At the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Formigal , Spain , tenth place in the downhill was his best result.

In the 2008/09 European Cup season , Gisin's results improved significantly. He already finished sixth in the first Super-G and celebrated his first victory after two further top 10 results at the end of the season in the downhill from Crans-Montana . On January 16, 2009, Gisin contested his first World Cup race in Wengen . In this super combination he finished 33rd. In January 2010, Gisin won another European Cup downhill in Les Orres and with a total of eight top 10 placements, he reached third place in the overall standings and fourth place in the 2009/10 season Downhill classification.

Gisin got his first World Cup points on November 27, 2010 when he finished 20th in the downhill from Lake Louise . Overall, he drove in seven World Cup races among the fastest 20 in the 2010/11 season . At the end of February, however, he had to end the 2011/12 season prematurely after he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee and bone sprains in a fall in the Super-G in Crans-Montana had suffered. At the Super-G in Kitzbühel on January 23, 2015, Marc Gisin had a serious crash near the Hausbergkante and had to be flown to the hospital in a helicopter. Due to a traumatic brain injury he had to end the season early. His best World Cup results to date are two fifth places, which he achieved in 2016 and 2018 on the Hahnenkamm descent on the Streif in Kitzbühel.

During the World Cup descent on the Saslong in Val Gardena on December 15, 2018, Gisin fell and crashed violently on the slopes. He was unconscious for a while and had to be flown to the hospital for medical treatment. He broke several ribs, but initially feared skull or back injuries he did not suffer. Just one day before the fall, an article written by Gisin appeared in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , which deals with his fall in 2015 and the risk in alpine skiing.
