The Paseo de la Castellana is one of the main high streets of Madrid , Spain . The road, which is around 5.4 kilometers long, currently has six central lanes (three in each direction) and another four side lanes (two in each direction). The Paseo de la Castellana runs from the Plaza de Colón (German: Columbus Square) in the city center to the so-called Nudo Norte ("north node") in the north of Madrid. The course of the road corresponds to that of an earlier river bed . As part of an urban development project called Operación Chamartín (named after the northern Madrid district of Chamartín ), it is planned to extend Paseo de la Castellana to the north again.

Also to the north, the street crosses one of the most important squares in Madrid, the Plaza de Castilla (lined with the towers of the Puerta de Europa ). On the street are the Nuevos Ministerios ministerial complex , the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu , the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales and the AZCA financial and shopping centers and, since 2008, the Cuatro Torres Business Area skyscraper group (former Real Madrid training ground).
