The Singapore Marathon (official name Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon ) is a marathon that has been held in Singapore since 2002 in December . The program also includes a half marathon and a 10 km run.
history
The current race has two predecessor events: the Singapore International Marathon, which has been in even years since 1980, and the Singapore Mobil Marathon, which has been in odd years since 1989. After the events merged into the Singapore International ExxonMobil Marathon in 2001 , the Standard Chartered Bank replaced ExxonMobil as the title sponsor the following year . This was accompanied by a complete redesign of the run; instead of a partial closure of the route to traffic, there was now the full closure common to other city marathons . Nothing stood in the way of a rapid increase in the number of participants.
route
All runs start on the esplanade . The marathon runners first run a short loop south to Tanjong Pagar and then return to the start area via Raffles Place . North of the Singapore River , the course turns east and leads over Raffles Avenue and Nicoll Highway to East Coast Park , the length of which is traversed on a loop. The last quarter of the route leads through Kallang , then along the Kallang River to the Singapore Flyer . After passing the Marina Bay Floating Platform and the launch area, you will arrive at the finish on St Andrew's Road between the Padang and City Hall .
The half marathon and 10 km runners turn south east after the start and cross the Benjamin Sheares Bridge onto the north bank of the Singapore River, where they embark on the last part of the marathon route, with the half marathon runners first on a turning point route complete the Nicoll Highway.
The route is extremely flat, but the times achieved are affected by the hot and humid climate, despite the start time of 5:30 am local time.
