Matti Alahuhta

Matti Alahuhta (2013)

Matti Juhani Alahuhta (born June 22, 1952 in Alahärmä , Finland ) is a Finnish manager and was CEO of KONE Corporation from 2005 to 2014 .

Life

education

After completing his M.Sc. in Technology 1976 Alahuhta received his PhD in Technical Sciences from Helsinki University of Technology in 1990 with his dissertation on "Global Growth Strategies for High Technology Challengers" .

Career

After completing his engineering degree, Alahuhta first worked as a development engineer for the Nokia Group , where he also made a career over the years. Alahuta was Sales Director at Rank Xerox from 1982 to 1984 , but returned to Nokia in 1984 as Sales Director. In 1992, Alahuhta was Vice-President, then President of Nokia Telecommunications from 1993 to 1998. From 1998 to 2003, Alahuhta was President of the Nokia Mobile Phone Division, and in 2004 he was Vice President of Nokia Group. From the beginning of 2005 to 2014, Alahuhta was CEO of the KONE Group.

Private

Alahuhta is married and has two children. His hobbies include golf, tennis and reading.

Awards and honors

In 1994 Alahuhta was awarded Knight First Class of the Finnish Order of the White Rose ; since 2003 he has been a commander of the order.

Alahuhta has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Tampere University of Technology .

In 2009 he was named European Manager of the Year .
