Alahärma [ ˈɑlɑhærmæ ] is a former parish in western Finland . At the beginning of 2009, Alahärmä was incorporated into the city of Kauhava together with the communities of Ylihärmä and Kortesjärvi .

Alahärmä lies in the north of the South Ostrobothnian landscape . In addition to the main town of the same name, which is located 26 kilometers northwest of the core city of Kauhava, the Alahärmä municipality includes the villages Ekola, Hakola, Hanhila, Hanhimäki, Hilli, Huhtamäki, Kivihuhta, Kojola, Kuoppala, Köykkäri, Lahdenkylä, Ojala, Poromaa, Perkiömäki, Pesola, Vakkuri, Voltti and Yliviitala. In total, the community had an area of ​​353.7 square kilometers. The last population was 4,661.

The first settler known by name in the Alahärmä area was a certain Heikki Maununpoika, who immigrated from Maunus in southwest Finland and built his house on the Lapua River in 1537. The first wooden church was built in 1752 by the local master builder Antti Hakola, the current successor building by the architect Josef Stenbäck was completed in 1903. The current rural community was officially founded in 1867.

Alahärmä was the home of Antti Isotalo, one of the most famous puukkojunkkarit , a group of robbers and highwaymen who made the area unsafe in the 19th century. His house in Alahärmä is now a museum. Furthermore, Alahärmä still boasts of his involvement in the Finnish independence movement; so during the First World War 43 of its inhabitants joined the German hunters to fight against Tsarist Russia. Several monuments commemorate her in the municipality.

Alaharmä has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Finland; In addition to various medium-sized service companies, the main employer is primarily the metalworking industry. Potato cultivation is particularly important for agriculture; there is also a fur farm .

The folklore and cultural festival Härmälääset Häjyylyt is held annually in Alahärmä in summer .
