Domino Records is a British indie label headquartered in London .

history

The label was founded in 1993 by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice in London with the aim of bringing out American indie rock in England and Europe. Accordingly, the first release was a single by the band Sebadoh , which was licensed by Sub Pop . The label also secured the rights for a number of artists who were / are under contract with Drag City in the USA . While Britpop was booming in England , Domino's sales remained manageable. It was not until the British band Franz Ferdinand and their extremely successful debut album, as well as the mass Internet hype about the Arctic Monkeys , who signed with Domino despite other lucrative offers, that sales rose suddenly. In October 2005 Domino recorded both the first number 1 in the British album charts (Franz Ferdinand's "You Could Have It So Much Better") and the first number 1 in the singles charts (Arctic Monkeys: "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor "). Due to the financial success, a Domino branch was opened in Germany, whose products are currently sold by the Indigo company .
