Empress Hotel

The Fairmont Empress , commonly known only as the Empress , is a historic castle hotel in Victoria , the capital of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The hotel was designated a National Historic Site of Canada on November 27, 1975 by the Government of Canada .

The Empress is located in the inner harbor of Victoria, within sight of the provincial parliament.

history

It was built from 1904 to 1908 as a railroad hotel for the Canadian Pacific Railway based on a design by Francis Rattenbury in the Edwardian style. From 1909 to 1914 it was expanded so that it now contains 460 rooms and suites. In 1999 Canadian Pacific separated from its hotel chain , since then the Empress has been part of the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts chain . The Empress was considered one of the most luxurious hotels on the American Pacific coast and already counted King Edward VIII as Prince of Wales, King George VI. and numerous celebrities among his guests.

Today the five-star hotel is part of the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts chain .

Afternoon tea

A tourist attraction is the afternoon tea , which is served according to British tradition . According to the hotel, it is served to 75,000 visitors annually.
