William "Will" Oldham (born December 24, 1970 in Louisville, Kentucky ) is an American actor , songwriter and musician . His music is often assigned to the genres of folk and alternative country .
Oldham recorded under various stage names, initially as Palace Brothers (1993/94), Palace Music (1995/96) and Palace (1996). Since 1999 he has performed continuously as Bonnie 'Prince' Billy . David Pajo and his brothers Ned and Paul Oldham are often involved in his albums . Other band projects in which he is active are Amalgamated Sons of Rest , The Anomoanon and Boxhead Ensemble .
Life
After Oldham first tried his hand at acting in Hollywood and dropped out of Brown University , he returned to Kentucky in 1991. From then on he devoted himself to music.
Movies and other activities
Oldham has appeared in several films, including The Guatemalan Handshake (2005) and Junikäfer (2006), which won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award. He took on one of the roles in the drama Wendy and Lucy starring Michelle Williams . Previously, he starred in Old Joy (also directed by Kelly Reichardt ), which was voted Best Independent Film in 2006 at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards .
Oldham also starred in Edén (2014), A Ghost Story (2017) and several short films. For the film Elliot, der Drache (2016) he contributed the song The Dragon Song .
Oldham starred as partner of comedian Zach Galifianakis in an alternate version of the video for Kanye West's 2007 single Can't Tell Me Nothing . He also shot the cover photo of Slint's Spiderland album .
