Lambchop (ger .: lamb chop ) is an American rock band from Nashville , Tennessee . The band is a collective of up to 18 people around the former parquet layer Kurt Wagner (* 1958), who writes both the lyrics and the music and shapes the sound of the band with his slightly smoky voice. Lambchop emerged in 1993 from the band Posterchild, which was founded in 1986 by former school friends Wagner, Jim Watkins (guitar) and Marc Trovillion (bass). The music is characterized by a certain minimalism, i. H. through economical instrumentation and calm, reserved handling, which fans like to call "gentle elegance". In Europe, Lambchop's records were released on the City Slang label.

With the release of their 2008 album OH (Ohio) , the group and their label took an unusual route: The CD, case and booklet, was included in the October issue of Rolling Stone magazine , the price of which was only slightly increased. However, the campaign also met with criticism: Two large retail chains took it as an opportunity to ban Lambchop albums from their shelves.

The critically acclaimed album Mr. M was heavily influenced by the suicide of Vic Chesnutts , who was Kurt Wagner's friend and mentor. Wagner painted the cover motif and the illustrations for the booklet during a musical break.

Since FLOTUS (For Love Often Turns Us Still) , Lambchop has come closer to electronic music , so in addition to synthesizers and drum computers , auto-tune are also used.
