Slint is a post-rock band from Louisville , Kentucky that emerged from Squirrel Bait in 1985. After two albums, the band broke up in 1991, but made a lasting impression, especially on the post-rock scene.

In 2005 the band reformed for a few concerts and continues to perform live irregularly. However, no new material was published.

history

Slint's first album, Tweez , was recorded in 1987 under the production of Steve Albini , but was only released on the Jennifer Hartman Records label in 1989 under obscure circumstances. After the recording of Tweez , bassist Ethan Buckler was replaced by Todd Bashear. In 1991 Spiderland followed , which was released on Touch and Go Records and was produced in 1990 by Brian Paulson. It got very good reviews and is now considered a groundbreaking album. The influence was so great that it has been dubbed the first true post-rock album that sparked a new wave of bands that tried to distance themselves from the unrestricted aggression of hardcore punk while maintaining the underlying ethics . The cover of Spiderland comes from a series of pictures that the singer-songwriter Will Oldham, also from Louisville, shot with the band. Spiderland culminates in the ominous "Good Morning, Captain", arguably the band's most highly regarded track (the song later appeared on the soundtrack of Larry Clark's film Kids ). After the release of Spiderland , the band split. In 1993, Tweez was reissued on Touch and Go Records. Finally, a short untitled EP was released in 1994 , originally recorded in 1989 and slated to be a 12 " single on Jennifer Hartman Records. Original copies by Tweez already included an announcement of the 12". Since Slint signed with Touch and Go before pressing, the master tapes were withheld. The 12 "contains the previously unreleased" Glenn "and a reinterpretation of" Rhoda "by Tweez .

The members of Slint have since played in various bands. David Pajo currently performs under the name PAJO and also plays bass in New York street metal band Early Man. Pajo also worked with Tortoise , Palace and the short-lived rock band Zwan (with Billy Corgan as the front man). Brian McMahan founded The For Carnation in 1994 and also played for Palace. Britt Walford played drums for Evergreen and the Breeders on their album Pod under the pseudonym Shannon Doughton and as Mike Hunt on the Safari EP. Ethan Buckler formed the band King Kong in 1989, whose 7 " Movie Star line-up consisted of the members of Slint.

Almost 15 years after the split, Brian McMahan, David Pajo and Britt Walford reunited to curate and headline the All Tomorrow's Parties (ATP) festival in Camber Sands, England , resulting in the fastest ticket sell-out in festival history took place. Also in 2005 Slint played a few shows in the US and Europe . Although the reunion should only be for a short time, the band regrouped in 2007 around their genre-defining work Spiderland in full length at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona , in London as part of the ATP series Don't Look Back , as well as to play several other dates in the US and Europe (at Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival, Showbox in Seattle , and at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood ). In addition to Spiderland and the Slint EP, the band also played a new track called "King's Approach", which was taken as an indication of a full-time reunion.
