A Ghost Story is an American drama film with fantasy elements by David Lowery , which premiered on January 22, 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival and was released in US cinemas on July 7, 2017.

M and C are newly married. They live in an old house that C loves, but M would rather leave it for a city apartment and just as she convinces him to move, C is killed in a car accident. From this point onwards, the bereaved family member is haunted by C's ghost, who does not want to and cannot leave the house. C stays in the house even after M moves away and new tenants move into the house, mourns his beloved and haunts her in a white sheets. Unable to walk and move to a higher level, C remains tied to the property when the house is demolished one day, and even when a futuristic skyscraper is built there many years later, C is still there.

Staff and cast
The director took David Lowery , who also wrote the screenplay for the film. The project was reported for the first time in autumn 2016 after the shooting had already been completed. In an interview, the director stated that after the large-scale production Elliot, the Dragon , he wanted to direct a small, spontaneous film.
Lowery was inspired by an argument the filmmaker had with his wife when he came up with the idea for the film. He did not want to leave the old house in which they lived, because he believed he had memories of the old house as well as memories of it. In his film, he anthropomorphizes a very specific place in time.
The film shows the actors Casey Affleck in the role of C, Rooney Mara in the role of M and also Will Oldham , Rob Zabrecky and Liz Franke .

Filming took place secretly over 19 days in the summer of 2016 in Irving , where Lowery lived, in Dallas and surrounding areas.
The film music was composed by Daniel Hart . Hart had also composed the music for Lowery's previous films, The Saints - They Knew No Law , St. Nick and Elliot, the Dragon . The soundtrack to the film consists of 12 tracks and was released on July 7, 2017 by Milan Records.

In Germany the film is FSK 12 . The statement of reasons for the release states: “The story about time and transience is told very calmly, leaving plenty of room for reflection. Children under the age of 12 can be overwhelmed by the film because of the sometimes gloomy atmosphere in combination with individual moments of horror and violence. "
Reviews and grossing results
The film received a positive rating from 91 percent of Rotten Tomatoes ' critics and received an average rating of 8 out of a possible 10 points.
Sebastian Lucas from robots-and-dragons.de explains that the horror film is based on classics of its genre, such as John Carpenter's Halloween - The Night of Horror , Tim Burton's Beetlejuice and the Conjuring films by James Wan .
