The Dolby Theater , home of the 2018 Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel , presenter of the award ceremony

The 90th presentation of the Oscars ( English 90th Academy Awards ) took place on March 4, 2018 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles . The late date of the event, which usually takes place at the end of February, was chosen because the Winter Olympics are taking place at the same time . In the year of the Academy Awards, awards are always given to films that were shown in American cinemas for the first time in the previous year, in this case the films of 2017 . The most successful was Guillermo del Toro's fantasy film Shape of Waterab, which won four of its 13 nominations, including awards for best film and best director. This made Shape of Water the first and even the second fantasy film to be awarded as the best film in 14 years .

As in the previous year, the production of the award ceremony was carried out by the two American film producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd . As in the previous year, Jimmy Kimmel led through the evening. The nominations were officially announced on January 23, 2018 by Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis .

There was a premiere in the Best Camera category . For the first time in the history of the Oscars, Rachel Morrison was nominated as a cinematographer.

With his second Oscar award, Robert Lopez became the first artist to win the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards at least twice each in a competitive category.

Casey Affleck , the winner of the category Best Actor of the Oscars in 2017 , did not attend the Academy Awards in part because against him of sexual harassment existed, but he wanted to keep the focus on the work of filmmakers. Until then, it was traditionally customary for last year's winner in the Best Leading Actor category to present the award to the best leading actress.

As part of the musical accompaniment of the evening, all of the pieces of music nominated in the Best Song category were presented. Gael García Bernal , Natalia Lafourcade and Miguel presented Remember Me from the Pixar film Coco - More Alive Than Life! , written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez . Mary J. Blige introduced the song Mighty River from Dee Rees ' film Mudbound , written by Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson , Common and Andra Day presented Stand Up for Something from the film Marshall , written by Diane Warren and Common, and Keala Settle den Song This is Me from the film Greatest Showman , written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul .
