Thomas E. Sanders

Thomas E. Sanders (* 1953 in San Pedro , California - † July 6, 2017 ) was an American production designer and art director .

Life

Sanders initially worked as a furniture designer and came to film by chance. At first he ran his own company for film construction, but sold it when he got the opportunity to work for Tony Scott as art director in 1990 . Scott made the action film A Dangerous Affair and Days of Thunder , after which he worked on Hook for Steven Spielberg . In 1993 Sanders, together with Garrett Lewis , was nominated for the first time for an Oscar in the category of best production design for Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula . 1999 saw his second Oscar nomination for Steven Spielberg 's Saving Private Ryan , with Lisa Dean .

His other films as a production designer include Braveheart , Mission: Impossible II and Apocalypto . In addition, he worked in 1996 as a director on an episode of the television series Tales from the Crypt .

Sanders died at the age of 63 of complications from cancer. He was married and had five children.
