Fathers ' ( Fathers' Day ) is a US film comedy from Ivan Reitman from the year 1997 . The film is a remake of the French film Two Crazy Jokers with Gérard Depardieu from 1983 . The main roles were played by Robin Williams , Billy Crystal and Nastassja Kinski .

Scott Andrews, the underage son of Collette Andrews, leaves the family to join the Sugar Ray musical group. Colette's clumsy husband goes in search of the boy. Collette asks her former life partners, attorney Jack Lawrence and the neurotic Dale Putley, to find the boy. She lies to each of the men that he's Scott's father.

The men get to know each other and after a while they work together. They find Scott and bring him home. Scott tells each of the men privately that he is his real father.

James Berardinelli described on ReelViews seeing the film as a "loss of time" and the comedy as one of the most disappointing films of 1997. He wondered how it would be possible if so many "talents" like Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Ivan Reitman and Joel Silver were involved and strongly criticized the script.

Roger Ebert described the comedy in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 9, 1997 as "brainless" ("brainless").

“Remake of the French comedy" Zwei insane jesters "(1983), which is tailored to the two star comedians Williams and Crystal. A comedy that is imaginative and funny only in a few moments, and over long stretches of it tenacious. "

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 1998 .

The film was shot in Los Angeles , San Francisco and Reno, Nevada. Its production amounted to an estimated 85 million US dollars . The film grossed approximately $ 28.66 million in US cinemas. In Germany there were around 101,000 cinema viewers.

The actual music group Sugar Ray appears in the film . Mel Gibson makes a cameo as a piercer.
