Sheldon F. Kahn (born March 1, 1940 ) is an American film editor .

Life

After his family moved to California , Sheldon Kahn knew at the age of seven that he would eventually work behind the camera. So after school he would go to test shoots when the opportunity arose to see how the film set was being worked on. When he was looking for work after graduating from the University of Southern California in 1963 , he found a job in the postal department of CBS . When the opportunity arose at the television station KNXT with the help of KEM, a German cutting table technology from the company Keller-Elektronik-Mechanik from Hamburg , he took advantage of this. On the news, he gained so much experience with KEM technology that he was considered for film editing. He assisted in films such as Zapfenstreich and Blume in Love , while his first independent film editing of Eine flew über das Kuckucksnest has already received an Oscar nomination.

After Kahn already edited the films The Electric Rider and Die Sensationsreporterin for Sydney Pollack , editing Out of Africa earned him the second Oscar nomination. He has also worked with the director Ivan Reitman for many years. Among other things, he not only cut Twins , Ghostbusters II and Kindergarten Cop , but also Six Days, Seven Nights and Junior . He referred to himself as a performance editor , as he repeatedly worked into the cut scenes that were not necessary, but always represented interesting aspects of individual figures.

Sheldon Kahn is a member of the American Cinema Editors .
