action

During a vacation in the South Seas on Makatea with her fiancé Frank Martin, the young journalist Robin Monroe urgently has to go to Tahiti for a photo shoot . Only the rough pilot Quinn Harris with his plane, a 30-year-old Beaver , can take them there. On the flight over the sea, however, they get caught in a storm front, the aircraft is struck by lightning, the radio fails and Harris can no longer keep the aircraft in the air. Fortunately, that happens near an uninhabited island, and manages the experienced pilots, the single engine airplane on the sandy beach of the island forced landing . In doing so, however, the landing gear breaks, so that they are now stuck on the island.

On Makatea, Monroe's fiancé Frank and Harris's pretty friend Angelica, who is the star of the holiday paradise's evening dance performances, get to know each other better during the search for the missing plane. After the search was stopped, they both get drunk and when Frank accompanies the dancer to her apartment, he succumbs to her feminine charms and ends up in bed with her.

In the struggle for survival against the adversities of nature to get away from the tropical island, and finally even against modern-day pirates, Quinn Harris and Robin Monroe come together despite their different characters. On the run from the pirates, they discover a Japanese seaplane that crashed during World War II in a treetop in the middle of the jungle . With the floats still intact, they convert Harris' broken plane into a seaplane.

Shortly before the modified aircraft takes off, the pirates' ship appears nearby and shoots a cannon at the aircraft. Despite this, Harris, who was wounded by shrapnel, managed to start the plane. The pirates 'last cannon shot at the aircraft taking off, which only lifts off the water at the last moment and flies over the ship, is fired vertically, but misses the aircraft and, after the grenade falls straight back, destroys the pirates' ship. Harris is losing a lot of blood and threatens to pass out. Nevertheless, he still manages to impart some basic flying skills to his companion, especially when it comes to landing. Then he loses consciousness. Now Robin has to steer the plane alone despite a lack of flight experience.

Meanwhile, a ritual farewell to the two missing persons is taking place on Makatea Beach, after the search was abandoned the day before and Harris and Monroe had been declared dead. At the climax of the sad celebration, the noise of the engine can suddenly be heard, the plane comes flying along the coast, around the corner, and the completely stressed “pilot” Monroe somehow manages to land the machine near the beach. Harris is immediately rushed to the hospital. During a discussion between Harris and Monroe at the hospital, they both decide not to further deepen the "complicated" relationship that began on the island. Everyone is used to their lifestyle and doesn't want to give it up in favor of the other.

Shortly before their flight home, Monroe reveals to her fiancé that there is no real love in their overly superficial relationship. Frank finally eases his conscience and confesses his affair with Angelica. They part on good terms, Frank flies off alone, Monroe, who has realized in the few days of need what really counts, stays behind at the airport and meets the rushing Harris who has changed his mind in the meantime and himself is now sure of his love for her.

Reviews

“Mixture of comedy and adventure film, which tells the modified story of a Robinsonad in a sometimes amusing, sometimes reasonably exciting way. Filmed ready-made goods, largely routinely and clearly staged. "

"Even if everything is actually predictable here, some fun gags and the good team of actors ensure pleasant entertainment."
