Bruce Greenwood
Stuart Bruce Greenwood (born August 12, 1956 in Noranda , Québec ) is a Canadian actor .
Life
Bruce Greenwood was an excellent skier in his youth and therefore spent part of his school days in boarding school in Zurich . At the age of 16 he suffered a serious knee injury that made competitive sports impossible. At the request of his parents, he studied at the University of British Columbia . However, Greenwood dropped out of studies after three years to devote himself to acting. He trained as an actor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and at the London Central School of Speech and Learning .
Greenwood played his first movie role in 1979 in Bear Island in Arctic Hell . Three years later he was in Rambo with Sylvester Stallone . As there, Greenwood is mostly cast for supporting roles. His few main roles include the portrayal of Francis Brown in Exotica and the personification of Billy in The Sweet Beyond , both directed by Atom Egoyan . He also played the character role of Dennis Wilson in the film The Dream of the Beach Boys . For Roger Donaldson he portrayed President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Thirteen Days . Bruce Greenwood also works as a television actor. He played leading roles in the series Nowhere Man - Without Identity! , Chief Physician Dr. Elsewhere and Knots Landing .
In the eleventh and twelfth Star Trek feature films, each directed by JJ Abrams , Greenwood played the role of Captain (later Admiral) Christopher Pike, the mentor and predecessor of Captain Kirk as the commander of the Enterprise. He also starred as Emmet Cole in the short-lived ABC thriller series The River in 2012 .
Bruce Greenwood is dubbed in the German versions of his films by Oliver Stritzel .
