action

Major Thomas Egan is a US Air Force pilot and operates drones around the world from a base near Las Vegas . His colleagues call their work the best job in the world because they wage war during the day and drink beer and barbecue at their wives' homes in the evening. But Major Egan wants to go back to his previous unit and even fly a fighter plane in action. Because of his frustration, he takes refuge in alcohol and avoids contact with others, including his wife Molly.

When he kills children with rockets during a drone operation in Yemen, he expresses doubts about the operations to his new co-pilot Vera Suarez. Especially since on a previous mission they saw a man raping a woman and both of them could only watch. When his supervisor, Lieutenant Colonel Jack Johns, assigns Major Egan's team to work for the CIA , the situation escalates for Major Egan. The CIA orders attacks on targets with extremely high collateral damage and even calls for attacks that violate operational guidelines. Despite moral concerns, which he also expresses, Major Egan carries out the orders. After an argument with his wife, he appears drunk for work. His co-pilot Suarez covers him. However, Egan is called to order by Lieutenant Colonel Jack Johns after he deliberately lost control of the drone to prevent a "follow-up" attack that targeted Hellfire missiles at the first responders.

When Egan's wife decides to leave him with the children, he decides to kill the "right man" on his own. He controls a drone over the house in whose forecourt the man had repeatedly raped and mistreated the woman, and when he sees the man coming again, he fires a missile at the man and almost kills the woman he wanted to protect. When he sees the woman get up, however, he quits his job satisfied and drives to Molly and his children.

background

The film was screened at the Venice International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival . However, he could not win any prize there.
