Double Jeopardy ( Double Jeopardy ) is a thriller directed by Bruce Beresford from the year 1999th

action

Libby Parsons is happily married to her apparently wealthy husband, Nick, but is unaware of his growing financial problems. One day she goes on a sailing boat trip with him. But when she wakes up in the morning, Nick has disappeared. She is smeared with blood, finds numerous traces of blood and follows them on deck. She finds a knife, and when she picks it up, a Coast Guard boat comes along. The search for Nick remains fruitless.

She is charged with murder because she is the beneficiary of a $ 2 million life insurance policy. The jury recognized the motive for the murder and found them guilty. Before her imprisonment, she asks her best friend Angie to take care of her son. In prison, contact with Angie breaks off. She does research and finds out that Angie has moved to San Francisco with her son. When she calls and speaks to her son, "Daddy ..." is the last word she hears before the line is cut. Libby now realizes the truth - her husband is alive. She became the victim of insurance fraud.

In prison, she learns about the Double Jeopardy paragraph from an imprisoned ex-lawyer . Accordingly, one can only be sentenced once for the same act. When she is paroled, her only goal is to find her husband and son. Her probation officer Travis Lehman tries to stop her, but gradually he also realizes Nick's sneaky game and becomes Libby's ally. When they confront Nick, there is a scuffle. Nick is armed and shoots Travis. While both wrestle with each other, Libby shoots Nick, saving Travis' life. Finally there is a reunion between Libby and her son.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films said it was a "routine, but mechanically developed thriller that knows how to breathe neither soul nor credibility" into the characters.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times in 1999 that the film was made in the hope of grossing millions of dollars and that this seems to explain the many things that were wrong with it.

Film.com's Robert Horton described Doppelmord as a "bad film with a wonderful leading lady ."
