John from Cincinnati is an American television series that aired on HBO . The series started on HBO in June 2007, but was discontinued after one season.

The topic is the situation in the Yost family, whose lives have been shaped by surfing for three generations and whose relationships have broken down, but are being restored.

The series was David Milch's first project after Deadwood , he wrote the series together with Kem Nunn , who had already chosen the Californian surfer milieu as the subject in several novels.

Mitch Yost is an aging surfer whose career was interrupted by a knee injury and who has since run a surfing shop in Imperial Beach , near the Mexican border. He runs the business together with his wife Cissy. Her son Butchie used to be a successful surfer, but now lives in a cheap motel, marked by his addiction to heroin. With Mitch and Cissy their grandson Shaun also lives, from a relationship between Butchie and the porn actress Tina, who find each other again over the course of the season. Shaun also shows great talent for surfing and is taking his first steps in a career. John Monad, a mysterious stranger whose presence leads to a gradual change in family relationships, enters the life of the Yosts.

The ten episodes of the series aired in the United States from June 10 through August 12, 2007, immediately after the Sopranos ended .
