Jim Beaver
James "Jim" Norman Beaver Jr. (Born August 12, 1950 in Laramie , Wyoming ) is an American actor , screenwriter and film historian. He is best known for his role as gold miner Ellsworth in the HBO western drama Deadwood . He played a recurring supporting role in The CW series Supernatural .
Life
Jim Beaver is the son of Dorothy Addel and James Norman Beaver Sr. He attended Irving High School until 1967 and went to Fort Worth Christian Academy in 1969 where he graduated from college. Although he took part in a few plays in elementary school, he showed no interest in an acting career, but expressed the desire to become a writer or author later.
After Beaver joined the Marines after graduating from high school , he went to Oklahoma Christian University after his service, where he became interested in the theater and also played his first small role in The Miracle Worker . He played his first professional theater role in 1972 in the play Regen by William Somerset Maugham . This was followed by many small roles in films such as Sister Act , Sliver and The Life of David Gale .
However, his best-known role is that of gold prospector Whitney Ellsworth in the HBO series Deadwood , in which Beaver was cast for one of the leading roles. He also played the role of Bobby Singer in the mystery series Supernatural and the role of the sheriff in the series Harper's Island . He also works as a film writer for various series.
Beaver was married to actress Cecily Adams from 1989 until her death in 2004 . This marriage resulted in a daughter in 2001.
