action

A wedding party of 17 guests travels to Harper's Island for the wedding of Henry Dunn and Patricia (Trish) Wellington . However, this island also has a dark past: seven years ago, six people were killed in John Wakefield's rampage. The sheriff shot him shortly afterwards. Among the victims was the mother of Abby Mills, the groom's best friend. At first she hesitates, but for Henry's sake decides to return.

As soon as she arrived, Abby Mills found a newspaper article on the mirror in her room about the rampage seven years ago. Shortly afterwards she received a call in which the caller was playing music on a record player. She thinks it's a stupid prank at first. Her mind changes after the bride's father, Thomas Wellington, is split in the middle with a whale spade in front of the company at the dress rehearsal. It is now clear to her that the nightmare is starting over. JD Dunn, the groom's brother, is first accused of announcing shortly before the murder that there would be another big surprise for Henry. He is imprisoned by Sheriff Charly Mills, Abby's father. However, after the murders continue, it is clear that JD cannot be the killer. He manages to escape, but shortly afterwards he is murdered on the pier.

The company flees to a pub and locks the door. Later, a car drives up to the pub and hands over the believed-dead Jimmy Mance. Jimmy finds a message for Abby from her father, who was assigned the role of scapegoat after JD. The message says that Charly wants to meet Abby - which she does. She learns that Charly has made a pact with John Wakefield; from here on it becomes clear that Wakefield survived after all. The pact was about Charly sacrificing herself for Jimmy because Abby loves him. The hunt begins - and there are fewer and fewer suspects. The group finally succeeds in catching Wakefield. In the end, there are Henry, Trish, Abby, Jimmy, Sully, Danny, Shea and their daughter Madison left. Trish, who was previously allegedly pushed off a cliff (Jimmy is suspected), manages to get help. Henry, Abby, Jimmy, and Sully eventually find them; as it seems that the nightmare is over, Henry and Trish go to Candlewick and get their bags. The coast guard called for help arrives late due to the adverse weather conditions. Meanwhile, Wakefield frees himself and kills Danny. Shea and Madison can still escape and go to Sully. Sully helps Shea and Madison by putting them in a motorboat - and they flee the island. After Henry kills his bride Trish, it becomes clear that he is the killer and Wakefield's accomplice. Henry later kills Sully and instead of Abby, as agreed, he kills Wakefield.

Shortly afterwards, Abby wakes up in a room, stripped to her underwear. She goes into the living room and finds Henry. He tells her that Wakefield was his father and that Abby is his half-sister. He confesses his love to her several times and that he killed everyone to live alone with Abby on the island. She escapes to an old hut and is able to find the bound and gagged Jimmy. Henry tells her that for the sake of Jimmy Abby, he signed a contract confessing that he shared the murders with Wakefield. However, Jimmy and Abby manage to escape at the same time, but Henry follows Abby and tries to make it clear to her that he cannot live without her and that he needs her more than anything. However, Abby eventually fatally injures Henry in self-defense with a whale spade. He tells her one last time that he loves her, then he dies. Abby and Jimmy then leave the island in a motorboat.

The last minutes of the last episode show a wedding video in which all guests wish the bridal couple good luck for their future together.

Characters

Abby Mills ( Elaine Cassidy ) Abby Mills is Henry Dunn's best friend. After seven years she comes back home to the mysterious Harper's Island . There she meets her great love Jimmy and her father, the sheriff of the island, again. After John Wakefield murdered her mother, he sent her away and Abby moved to Los Angeles.

Henry Dunn ( Christopher Gorham ) Henry Dunn is coming to the island to celebrate his wedding to Trish Wellington in a few days. His uncle Marty has been taking care of him since his parents died. He is always helpful and friendly; but appearances are deceptive. He doesn't let the arrogance of his soon-to-be father-in-law get him down. As the series progresses, it turns out that he has been in love with Abby since childhood and that she is the love of his life.

Trish Wellington ( Katie Cassidy ) Trish Wellington is engaged to Henry. Her ex-boyfriend, Hunter Jennings, follows Trish to the island to continue soliciting her. But behind this nasty plan is Trish's father, who cannot accept Henry Dunn as his son-in-law. But she sticks to her decision. When Trish learns of her father's plan, he gives Jennings money to make him disappear. Trish loves her family more than anything.

Chloe Carter ( Cameron Richardson ) Chloe Carter is one of Trish's bridesmaids. She looks good and attracts all men. She finds love for life in Cal. But Sully and Uncle Marty also have their eyes on the attractive blonde. Although all hell is breaking loose and the killing does not end, Cal proposes marriage to the blonde - which Chloe accepts. But they cannot enjoy this moment for long. But towards the end of the series, Chloe falls from a bridge because John Wakefield recently killed her fiancé Cal, whom he threw down the bridge into the water. Chloe also voluntarily dropped because she couldn't live without Cal.

Cal Vandeusen ( Adam Campbell ) Cal Vandeusen is different from the other guests. That's why he seems like a loser to most people and is the outsider. He graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in medicine. He doesn't know anyone on the island except Chloe. He would do anything for his girlfriend. Cal was almost one of the first victims, but Abby and Chloe were able to save him. He becomes engaged to Chloe on the island.

Jimmy Mance ( CJ Thomason ) Jimmy Mance is Abby's old sweetheart. He works as a fisherman on the island and went to school there with Abby. He used to be a good friend of Henry's. Once he barely survived an attack and is at times mistaken for Wakefield's accomplice. Abby, however, believes in the innocence of her great love - and is right.

Christopher "Sully" Sullivan ( Matt Barr ) Sully is Henry's best man. He can't resist a pretty woman and seems very conceited at first. He has his eye on the beautiful Chloe and therefore does not understand how she is with "someone" like Cal. Later, however, he thinks differently about Cal than the one who saves his life. Sully saves Madison and Shea by putting them in a motorboat and taking them off the island. He survived almost to the end.

Trivia

Harper's Island is a fictional island that is said to be 60 km from Seattle . In fact, Anderson Island is 60 km away (southwest), but it has no further similarities to the island in the series. San Juan Island has similarities in terms of landscape, harbor and lighthouse, but at 100 km (northwest) is further away than indicated in the series. The map shown in the series corresponds to Bowen Island , which, however, is located northwest of Vancouver in British Columbia. The only island in the world that bears the name Harper's Island is located on the south coast of Ireland and can therefore be excluded as the location where the plot of the series takes place.

The series is set in Vancouver and its surrounding islands. The lighthouse from the opening credits is located in Lighthouse Park northwest of Vancouver.

Until the day they got their script, the actors were unaware of the death of their roles. The only actor who knew how long he would be in front of the camera for the role was Richard Burgi (Thomas Wellington, father of the bride).

With two exceptions, all deaths are murders: Chloe jumps off the bridge on which Cal is murdered by John Wakefield and kills herself. Since Malcom's sudden appearance startled him, Booth accidentally shoots himself in his leg and bleeds to death.
