Rob Thomas (born August 15, 1965 in Sunnyside , Washington ) is an American writer , screenwriter and television producer , best known for his book Rats Saw God and as the creator of the US television series Veronica Mars and iZombie .

life and career

Thomas was born on August 15, 1965 in Sunnyside, Washington. When he was ten, his family moved to Texas , where he graduated from San Marcos High School in 1983. In 1987 he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in history . He and his partner Katie Orr have a daughter, Greta Mae, who was born on March 24, 2005. Today Thomas lives and works in Los Angeles , California .

Before turning to writing children's and youth literature, Thomas taught journalism classes in high school, was a consultant for the University of Texas student newspaper, and worked for the school television network Channel One News . These experiences inspired his novel Satellite Down .

Thomas made his first experiences as a television screenwriter in 1996 with the animated series Space Ghost Coast to Coast . During the first season of the series Dawson's Creek , Thomas was a member of the screenwriting staff. He then developed and produced the short-lived, but critically acclaimed, television series Cupid . In 2004, Thomas finally had his breakthrough with the UPN television series Veronica Mars developed and produced by him , which was discontinued after the third season. For ABC he worked on a remake of his series Cupid , which finally aired between March and June 2009, but was then canceled.

In March 2014, the movie Veronica Mars was released, which continues the series. Thomas acted as producer, screenwriter and director on this project. 2015 saw the premiere of the TV series iZombie , which Thomas developed together with Diane Ruggiero-Wright for The CW . In September 2018 it was announced that an eight-episode fourth season of Veronica Mars would be released on the streaming service Hulu in 2019 . The plot of the eight episodes will take place five years after the 2014 film.
