Darren Star (born July 25, 1961 in Potomac, Maryland ) is an American television director , television producer and screenwriter .

Career

He is best known for his hit series Beverly Hills, 90210 , Melrose Place , Central Park West and Sex and the City , all of which he produced and wrote several scripts for each. In 2008 he was the producer of the feature film Sex And The City .

Private

Star was born in Potomac to a writer and a dentist. There he attended Winston Churchill High School and then the University of California in Los Angeles . He lives openly gay in Los Angeles and New York City .
