The California Clan (original title Santa Barbara ) was a daily American soap opera . The series was broadcast in the US from July 30, 1984 to January 15, 1993 with a total of 2,137 episodes on NBC .
content
In the beginning, the “California Clan” was about the fate of four families: the Capwells, the Lockridges, the Perkins and the Andrades. The network of families and storylines changed over time. After a few months it was the Andrades and the Perkins who almost completely disappeared from the scene. The series had a difficult time initially to assert itself in the audience's favor. New authors brought new characters and new families with them, while roles were also cut; John Perkins (Robert Allen Brown), who died in the Santa Barbara earthquake, was one of the first victims whose role was dropped by new writers in order to develop a new storyline.

The private broadcaster RTL (formerly RTL plus) broadcast the soap opera in Germany from January 4, 1988 to March 28, 1988 in the evening program (7:25 p.m.) under the original title and from January 4, 1989 with great success under the title " California Clan ”in the afternoon program at 1:20 pm.
