Peter Mark Richman
Peter Mark Richman (born Marvin Jack Richman ; born April 16, 1927 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † January 14, 2021 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and author . Since 1953 he has made almost 160 film and television appearances.
Life
Peter Mark Richman was born in 1927 as one of four children to a Jewish upholsterer in Philadelphia. He attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, where he studied pharmacy (he was officially allowed to practice as a pharmacist until his death ). Richman played football in the Pennsylvania League for two years before a serious knee injury ended that career. Then he turned to acting, initially starring on New York's Broadway and in summer theaters. He became a member of the renowned Actors Studio .
In 1953, Richman made his first appearance on the fledgling US television. The call to Hollywood came when star director William Wyler hired him for a major supporting role in his film Alluring Temptation (1956) alongside Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire about a Quaker family in the American Civil War. He then played, among others, in The Black Orchid (1958) alongside Sophia Loren . Richman, who otherwise played a supporting role, also played leading roles in several B-movies .
Between the 1960s and 1990s, Richman was a prominent face on US television, mostly starring as a guest actor in a total of over 500 television episodes. In series such as Cain's Hundred , Longstreet and California Clan , however, Richman was also seen in leading roles. He also took on recurring supporting roles in the series Jack of Hearts with Two Women (as Reverend Snow), The Denver Clan (as Andrew Laird) and Beverly Hills, 90210 (as Lawrence Carson). In the 1990s, Richman played for the German television broadcaster ZDF in the series My Secret Summer alongside Ruth Maria Kubitschek . The character actor often embodied menacing or villainous characters, which Richman said he never regretted, since those are the more interesting roles anyway. In addition to his work as an actor, Richman also works as a painter and author. Several of his pieces have already been performed by the Actors Studio. He filmed his play 4 Faces in 1999 with himself as a producer, screenwriter and leading actor. Richman also published several novels .
While mostly on television, he continued to star in supporting roles in movies such as Friday the 13th Part VIII - Manhattan Death Trap and Naked Cannon 2½ . From the mid-1990s, he mainly made small independent films and in 2013 was also seen as an actor in his play A Medal for Murray in Tel Aviv-Jaffa , which received good reviews there. Peter Mark Richman was married to actress Helen Richman (* 1930) since 1953. They had five children. He was a member of the Subud spiritual movement.
