action

In the pilot, Sheriff Sam McCloud escorts an inmate from New Mexico to New York City , where he is involved in an investigation into a murder case. The plot is clearly based on Don Siegel's feature film Coogan’s Big Bluff from 1968, in which Clint Eastwood played the lead role. The screenwriter of the film was also involved in the series production and was named as the creator of the characters. In the series, the contrast between the “country boy” and the city dwellers as well as the conflict between McCloud and his superior Peter B. Clifford, who could not cope with the unconventional manner of the sheriff, was often discussed. The series often featured set pieces from western films such as horse chases using lassos .
