Stu Phillips
Stuart "Stu" Phillips (born September 9, 1929 ) is an American film and television composer .
Life
Phillips studied music at the High School of Music and Art in New York City and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester . He then became A&R Manager at Colpix Records , where he looked after James Darren and Nina Simone , among others . He moved to Capitol Records , where he produced the Easy Listening studio orchestra Hollyridge Strings , and eventually to Epic Records . From the 1960s he composed music for various films , including Flowers Without Scent by Russ Meyer. From the mid-1970s he worked for Universal Studios and composed the title music for some of their television series of the 1970s and 1980s, including Knight Rider , Kampfstern Galactica and Quincy . He worked closely with the producer Glen A. Larson , with whom he moved to FOX in the early 1980s , where he composed, among other things, for Ein Colt for all cases and Automan . He was nominated for a Grammy in 1979 and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
