Epic Records is an American music label . The most famous artists who are or have been under contract with Epic include Fifth Harmony , Camila Cabello , Judas Priest , Rage Against the Machine , The Jacksons , Michael Jackson , Mariah Carey , Bethany Joy Lenz , Anastacia , Tori Amos , Fiona Apple , Future , Avril Lavigne , Good Charlotte , Tenacious D , Shakira and The Nightwatchman .


Epic was founded in 1953 by the American television giant and media network CBS . It first became known in the fields of jazz and classical music , among other things, Epic released the Berliner Philharmoniker and from 1955 to 1961 recordings by the Count Basie Orchestra , The Duke's Men and by Moondog , Chu Berry , Ruby Braff , Ray Bryant , Joe Carroll , Curtis Fuller , Johnny Hodges , Horace Silver , Phil Woods and Lester Young . In the early 1960s, the first gold awards could be won and Epic turned increasingly to rock , R & B and country music (including The Yardbirds , Donovan and The Hollies ).

In the 1970s, Epic was able to increase its success with groups like Sly & the Family Stone or ABBA (only in Great Britain and Italy ), until finally in the 1980s with groups and artists like The Jacksons, Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne , George Michael and Cyndi Lauper (under the sister label Portrait Records ) has achieved multiple platinum awards. Also, fuel , AC / DC , Celine Dion , Melanie Thornton , Duran Duran and Good Charlotte plates released on Epic.

Today Epic belongs to Sony Music , the second largest record company in the world. The major Sony group bought up all the CBS labels in 1988 and founded Sony Music.
