content

The astronaut and test pilot Colonel Steve Austin is critically injured in a plane crash. Only a six million US dollar operation saved him, in which one eye, one arm and both legs are replaced by bionic body parts. With the enormous strength he gained, he worked as an agent for the "Office of Scientific Intelligence" and met dangerous scientists, cyborgs , aliens and even Bigfoot .

The pilot is based on the book Cyborg by Martin Caidin and was planned as a stand-alone film. Due to the great success, the story of Colonel Steve Austin was continued as a television series.

The main role was played by American actor Lee Majors , who was previously known for series such as Big Valley , The People at Shiloh Ranch (The Virginian) and Owen Marshall - Defense Attorney . Even after that, he continued to be successful with the series Ein Colt for all cases (The Fall Guy).

Due to the success of the series and the popularity of the character Jaime Sommers ( Lindsay Wagner ), who had a guest appearance as Steve's school friend, the offshoot The Seven Million Dollar Woman (The Bionic Woman) was produced and from 1976 to 1978 with 58 episodes broadcast in parallel. Initially, the story of Steve's childhood sweetheart, who was seriously injured in a parachute jump and eventually transformed into a bionic woman, was only planned as a double episode for The Six Million Dollar Man . After Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner became the dream couple after this double episode was broadcast, the scriptwriters bowed to the fans and the late Jaime was revived in another double episode through another complicated operation. Jaime loses her memory as a result of this operation and is initially traumatized, so that the couple split up for the time being and Lindsay Wagner fulfills as Jaime Sommers in her own series Missions for Oscar Goldman. However, there were other reciprocal guest appearances and storylines that began in one series and ended in the other ( Battle of the Aliens ).

However, in the three feature films, the first of which was shot nine years after the two series ended, Jaime (who has since completely regained her memory) and Steve eventually get back together. Despite renewed complications, the two finally marry at the end of the third feature film. The last two feature films have not yet been dubbed in German.

Trivia

In December 1976, the episode titled Carnival of Spies was filmed at NU-Pike amusement park in Long Beach , California . A member of the film crew damaged a neon-orange mannequin, whose arm broke off. When human bones were discovered and the authorities informed, the body was examined more closely.

Medical assessor Thomas Noguchi opened the body's mouth and was able to find a 1924 coin and a ticket to the Museum of Crime . This ticket and archived newspaper reports helped police identify the body as Elmer McCurdy's .

Remarks

  1. The original pilot The 6 Million Dollar Man is not part of the series. The pilot films Waffenschieber and Das Blackmailersyndikat are originally 90-minute films and have been split into two individual episodes by RTLplus. The episode Franklins Fehler (Kill Oscar, Part 2) originally belongs to this series, but was shown in Germany as part of Die Sieben-Million-Dollar-Frau , as the first and third parts of this multi-part series ( Unterwandert (Kill Oscar, Part 1) and The Counterattack (Kill Oscar, Part 3) ) ran there. Instead, the episode The Return Of Bigfoot - Part 2 ran not as an episode of The Seven Million Dollar Woman, as in the original, but in The Six Million Dollar Man . Therefore, the information on the number of episodes sometimes differ from one another.
