Big Valley (AKA The Big Valley ) is an American Western - television series , created by the in the years 1965 to 1969 a total of 112 episodes in four seasons, each containing 49 minutes.
action
The series takes place on the Barkley Ranch in Stockton , California around 1870 . The main role of the widowed matriarch Victoria Barkley was played by Barbara Stanwyck . Jarrod Barkley , the eldest son and respected attorney, played Richard Long . Peter Breck starred in the role of the younger son Nick Barkley , who runs the ranch . Linda Evans played Audra Barkley , the only daughter. In the first episode, Lee Majors is introduced in the role of Heath . He is the illegitimate son of Victoria's late husband, who first has to earn the trust of family members.
At the beginning of the series there was another son on the ranch, Eugene ( Charles Briles ), who only appeared sporadically and after the first season did not appear at all. Recurring characters included housekeeper Silas ( Napoleon Whiting ) and local sheriff Fred Madden ( Douglas Kennedy ).

Actress Barbara Stanwyck was nominated for the Golden Globe in 1966, 1967 and 1968 respectively . In 1966 she was also awarded an Emmy and received a nomination for this award in each of the following two years.
The film editor Sherman A. Rose received the Eddie Award in 1966 . Two years later, Desmond Marquette , who was also an editor on the series, received this award.
