Richard Long (actor)

Richard Long (born December 17, 1927 in Chicago , Illinois , † December 21, 1974 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Still in high school , Long starred alongside Claudette Colbert and Orson Welles in Tomorrow Is Eternal in 1945 . This was followed by roles in films such as The Trail of the Stranger , The Black Mirror and Daring Alibi . After separating from Universal , his film offerings declined, he now appeared predominantly in television series, including a recurring role in Maverick and from 1959 to 1960 the leading role in the detective series New Orleans, Bourbon Street . After that series ended, Long continued to play the role of Rex Randolph in 77 Sunset Strip . After two guest appearances in the Twilight Zone , his best-known role as eldest son and respected attorney Jarrod Barkley in the western series Big Valley followed in 1965 . He then played another leading role in the family series Nanny and the Professor in 1970 and 1971 and appeared in an episode of Bonanza .

In 1954, Long married actress Suzan Ball , who died of cancer the following year. Since 1957 he was married to Mara Corday , also an actress and model, with whom he had three children. Richard Long died of complications from heart disease in 1974 at the age of 47.
