Suzan Ball
Suzan Ball (* 3. February 1934 in Jamestown , New York as Susan Ball , † 5. August 1955 in Beverly Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .
Life
Ball lived briefly in Miami before moving her family to Buffalo, New York, from where she went to Washington to attend Kenmore Junior High School. She later went to North Hollywood High in Hollywood . She was the president of her school choir and sang in various school operettas. For a while she was the singer of Mel Baker's Orchestra .
When she became an actress in 1952, she changed her first name to Suzan. She was discovered by actress Mary Castle , who helped her audition at Universal Studios . In October 1951 she was signed by Universal Studios. She had her first Hollywood role in 1952 as a harem girl in the film Aladdin and His Lamp .
In the film Prisoners of the Jungle , she injured her right leg during a dance act. In 1953, while filming the film Conspiracy on Fort Clark , doctors discovered a tumor in her leg. In the same year, she slipped on spilled water at home and broke her leg. She was taken to the hospital and operated on to remove the tumors. The operation was unsuccessful and she was told that her right leg would need to be amputated. In December 1953 she became engaged to the actor Richard Long , on January 12, 1954 her leg was amputated and she wore a prosthesis from then on. On April 4, 1954, she married Richard Long in Santa Barbara.
In May 1955 she went on a nightclub tour. In July, during a scene on an episode of the Climax! (1954–1958), she collapsed and was hospitalized. Doctors found that the cancer had spread to the lungs. On August 5, 1955, Suzan Ball died of cancer after fighting the disease for 16 months. She was buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Ball was a second cousin of actress Lucille Ball and sister-in-law of Marshall Thompson .
