Action time

The series takes place around 1890 and is about the people on the fictional Shiloh Ranch, which initially belongs to the judge Henry Garth. The ranch is later owned by brothers John and Clay Grainger, before being taken over by Colonel Alan MacKenzie in the final season. The actors are drawn into hair-raising stories time and again, both in and outside of Wyoming , near Medicine Bow .

characters

The actors and the owners changed frequently at the “Shiloh Ranch” - but the cowboys “Virginian” and Trampas always lived there. The series is called the original "The Virginian" and The Men from Shiloh (Season 9) and is based on a novel by Owen Wister , who in 1914 with Dustin Farnum , 1923. Kenneth Harlan , 1929 with Gary Cooper and 1946 with Joel McCrea in the title role was filmed for the cinema. In it, the "Virginian", here an independent rancher, was described as taciturn, experienced and mysterious. His real name is never mentioned in the series either. In contrast to the series, the roles of Trampas and Steve in the book and film are the Virginian's bitter opponents, who are then brought down by him.

The German version of the opening credits, which does not correspond to the original American version, begins with a trampling herd of cattle and a dynamic, catchy music trailer.

DVD

All 9 seasons of the original American version have now been released on DVD for the US market (DVD country code 1). The first three German seasons are also available on DVD in Germany.

From 2011 to 2014, Mammut Home Entertainment initially published the first three seasons in two different versions each. The first version contains both the German abridged version and the uncut US original version (without subtitles) on the DVDs. The second version only includes the German abridged version on the DVDs. After that, the German rights went to Koch Media , which began to be released from season 1 in January 2015. In this third version, the episodes are uncut, scenes without German sound are underlaid with subtitles. All three versions only contain the episodes that were also published on German television.
