Tim Matheson (born December 31, 1947 in Glendale , California ; born Timothy Lewis Matthieson ) is an American actor , director and producer .

Life and accomplishments

Matheson made his debut in television series such as Window on Main Street in the early 1960s , in which he starred from 1961 to 1962. From 1972 to 1973 he appeared in the television series Bonanza .

Matheson took on one of the leading roles in the comedy Das turbo-horny rubber boat (1984). In the comedy Fletch - The Troublemaker (1985) he played the role of Alan Stanwyk , a drug dealer who wants to kill the journalist Irwin Fletcher ( Chevy Chase ) in order to escape under his identity. Other leading roles followed in the SF film Starfire (1990) and in the horror film Sometimes They Come Again (1991). In the comedy The Brady Family 2 (1996), he played a cheater who pretends to be the missing husband of Carol Brady ( Shelley Long ).

From 1999 to 2006 Matheson played the role of US Vice President John Hoynes in the television series The West Wing . For this role he was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002 and 2003 .

Tim Matheson also works as a director. He made his debut in 1982 with the staging of several episodes of the television series Chefarzt Dr. West phall . He made his first feature film in 1994 with Obsessed with Lust . A year later he directed Kill or Die! in which he also took on a role as an actor. Matheson made a few other television films, he was also involved in numerous television series as a director. Among other things, he shot three episodes of Without a Trace and, in 2007, two episodes of the crime series Psych . He was also active as a producer , e.g. B. 11 episodes of the series Cold Case - No victim is ever forgotten .

In 1989 Matheson and his partner Dan Grodnik bought the satirical magazine National Lampoon , which was then in financial difficulties. They sold the magazine two years later.

Matheson was married to actress Jennifer Leak from 1968 to 1971. In 1985 he married Megan Murphy, with whom he has two daughters and a son.
