Hart of Dixie is an American drama series by Leila Gerstein and Josh Schwartz . It was produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television in collaboration with Fake Empire Productions for the US broadcaster The CW and is about the surgeon Dr. Zoe Hart, who moved from New York to Bluebell, Alabama , and worked there as a general practitioner. In the United States, the series was broadcast on The CW on September 26, 2011 . The series ended after the fourth season.

season 1

New Yorker Zoe Hart is approached by a doctor named Harley at her graduation ceremony, who offers her to work in his family doctor's office. However, she declines this offer because she absolutely wants to follow in her father's footsteps and therefore begins training as a cardiac surgeon in a Manhattan hospital . After four years there, her boss refused her a coveted scholarship because she was not good at dealing with patients; she should work as a family doctor for a year. Also, her boyfriend, who she was with since college, breaks up with her. So she spontaneously decides to go to Bluebell in the  US state of Alabama to find out what Dr. Harley Wilkes stubbornly accepting position. When she gets there, however, she finds that he has already passed away and has bequeathed half of his practice to her.

She quickly realizes that southern hospitality is not always so hospitable. So the other doctor in town, Brick Breeland, is less happy to have to share the practice with a young outsider. Zoe's only allies are the  mayor , former  football  star Lavon Hayes, her daring neighbor Wade Kinsella, and handsome  lawyer  George Tucker, who happens to be the fiancé of Breeland's daughter Lemon. Zoe decides to end the adventure in Bluebell and return to Manhattan. However, the clinic at the practice where Harley worked showed her a photo of Harley and Zoe's mother. For Zoe it is now clear that Harley is actually her birth father and that she wants to find out more about him, which is why she is staying in Bluebell.

Brick hires his son-in-law George to find a way to buy Zoe out of the practice. A loophole in Brick and Harley's partnership agreement states that both partners must generate at least 30 percent of the revenue, which is why Zoe begins to make himself popular with the residents of Bluebell. She tries to do this, for example, by participating in parades, wanting to win the cooking competition or applying for the women's group of the “Bluebell Bells”. Gradually, however, she manages to win over the small townspeople and is thus allowed to keep her practice.

Zoe learns that Lavon and Lemon were having an affair while Lemon’s fiancé George was in New York for some time to pursue his lawyer career. Since Zoe has feelings for George, it is difficult for her to keep this secret to herself. However, she decides not to tell George anything, but advises Lemon to enlighten her fiancé so as not to base the marriage on a lie. When George finds out a little later, he ends the relationship with Lemon and turns to Zoe. However, the two's romance only lasts one night as George isn't ready to start a new relationship just yet. Lemon and George make up again and want to keep getting married.

Zoe's stepfather offers his daughter to move to Boston with him so that she can continue her specialist training as a surgeon. She agrees, since she cannot see George and Lemon as a couple because she still has feelings for George. On the way to the airport she changes her mind because she doesn't want to leave her friends behind in Bluebell.

On the day of the wedding, Bluebell is plagued by a storm, which is why the planned wedding cannot take place outdoors. George does everything possible to move the wedding inside with the help of the townspeople. Shortly before the wedding, however, he learns that Zoe does not want to leave the city as planned, but will stay in Bluebell. He confesses to Lemon that part of him is in love with Zoe, which is why he cannot marry her.

A romance has been developing between Zoe and Wade for some time, but Zoe had previously focused too much on George that she did not notice Wade's feelings for her. Wade accuses Zoe of always being interested in well-educated and well-off men, as she has only found the lawyer George, the veterinarian Judson and the oceanographer Jesse, who is also Wade's brother, attractive. When she also asks Wade to be her partner in the "Bluebell Battle" to be close to George, Wade gets angry and stops talking to Zoe.

Because she is afraid of the wedding ceremony, Zoe drives to the nearby town of Mobile on the day of the wedding to distract herself. Lavon asks her to pick up Wade on the way back, whose car broke down. Zoe agrees to save her relationship with Wade, who is still angry with her. Zoe and Wade get caught in a storm on their way to Bluebell, so they have to go to a barn for safety. Since Zoe thinks she has lost George to Lemon, she comes closer to Wade and sleeps with him.

Dr. Zoe Hart

Zoe is a dedicated young woman who follows in her father's footsteps and studies medicine before working as a successful surgeon in Manhattan. After her resignation, she moved to the small town of Bluebell to work in the practice of Dr. Harley Wilkes to work. But since he died and left half of the practice to her, she finally stays there. There she learns that Harley is her biological father, which leads to temporary problems with her parents, Candice and Ethan. She moves into the Lavon facility, with whom she becomes good friends. There she met Wade, where she felt a sexual tension. Zoe also befriends George and in the meantime feels more than friendship for him, which is why it comes to a little romance, which he breaks off. She sleeps with Wade on Lemon and George's wedding day and is kissed by George after he confesses his love to her. However, she doesn't want a relationship with either of them, but she starts to sleep with Wade anyway. Ultimately, she begins a relationship with Wade, but he cheats on her, whereupon Zoe is seriously disappointed.

After moving to New York for a while, George started an affair with Lavon, which broke up after George returned. She couldn't stand Zoe from the start and still can't let go of the fact that her mother left her family and her twelve years ago. She learns that she lives outside of Bluebell and has a baby daughter and a new husband there. After she is left by George on the wedding day, she moves out of home.

Lavon Hayes

His father Earl is an alcoholic who wants to throw himself off the roof every month, but Wade keeps stopping him from doing it. He doesn't have a good relationship with his brother Jesse either. He works as a bartender at Rammer Jammer , a restaurant and bar rolled into one. His dream is to run his own bar. Four years ago he married his then girlfriend Tansy while drunk, but they separated again after four months and only divorced three years later. He is initially sexually interested in Zoe, but begins to develop feelings for her and eventually falls in love with her. The two sleep together in the first season finale.

George Tucker

George is Lemon’s fiancé and a lawyer with his own practice who befriends Zoe, much to Lemons’s displeasure. He moved to New York for a while after his bar exam but returned to Bluebell for Lemon. He has a reptile phobia. In the meantime, sparks fly between Zoe and him. A little romance ensues after Lemon tells him about the affair with Lavon and he ends the relationship. The two get back together after initial difficulties and continue planning the wedding. However, he ends the relationship shortly before the wedding, as he cannot marry Lemon if part of him is in love with Zoe. George is rejected by Zoe.

Annabeth Nass

Annabeth, or AB for short, is Lemon’s best friend. She also gets along well with Zoe, which she has to hide because of the rivalry between Lemon and Zoe. However, Zoe is happy to have finally found a friend in Bluebell and AB that she finally has someone with whom she can talk openly and honestly about everything, as she is always a bit suppressed by Lemon.

AB is married at the beginning of the series, but it emerges in the course of the series that her husband left her for a waitress and she tried to hide it.

Annabeth went to Auburn University, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, who played football there at the time. She, on the other hand, was a cheerleader. She likes to cook and bake, is a member of the Belles and falls in love with Lavon.

Dr. Brick Breeeland

Brick is the co-owner of the practice and the father of Lemon and Magnolia. He was abandoned by his wife twelve years ago, which is why he now lives alone with his daughters.
