Sixx (own spelling: sixx ) is a German television station owned by ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH. The station started its program on May 7, 2010 and can be received unencrypted . The program supervision is carried out by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg . It sees itself as an entertainment broadcaster and its programs are aimed specifically at women .

history

In November 2009 ProSiebenSat.1 Media announced the new women's channel Fem-TV ; At the beginning of February 2010 the name was changed to Sixx . By changing the name, Sixx was to be established as the sixth channel on the remote control in analogy to Das Erste , ZDF (Second German Television), the third programs and ProSieben . Das Vierte had previously followed a similar approach . According to its own information, Sixx was used to research new advertising concepts , as there were initially no usual commercial breaks between the television formats . Since 2012, the station has also been working with commercial breaks, increasingly between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Since the beginning of the broadcast, white chickens have served as testimonial of the broadcaster , which are supposed to reflect the main target group, women. As a theme song was first Satellite of Lena Meyer-Landrut used. In the new concept, which went on air in May 2011, Julian Perretta now contributes the song Wonder Why .

About three weeks after the first broadcast of a series episode on the women's broadcaster, the full length is available free of charge in the Sixx video-on-demand area . On September 2nd, 2010 fem Media GmbH took over the administration of the Sixx website. Sixx serves as the central name for all women's offers on the ProSiebenSat.1 network. In an interview in August 2010 with the industry magazine Kontakter , the then channel boss Hofem-Best said that 80 percent of viewers were women and belonged to the most popular series Desperate Housewives , Grey's Anatomy and Damages - Im Netz der Macht . More in-house productions such as Galileo for women are currently planned . With the 2012 summer campaign: "Girls, do it yourself" , the station wanted to persuade the main target group to put Sixx on button 6 on the remote control. The station tried something similar in 2013 with the slogan "Express yourself happy"

In July 2013 the station received a new design and image concept. An animated chicken replaces the living white chickens as a testimonial. A song of its own was developed for the new image campaign, which brings the slogan of the television station “I want that too” to the fore.

program

Sixx primarily offers viewers American television series that have already been broadcast on ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE's channels, and with these series it intends to target women for the most part. In addition to successful series such as Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy , US talk shows such as Die Oprah Winfrey Show , which are broadcast with German subtitles, are also represented. When it started broadcasting on May 7, 2010, Sixx showed the free TV premiere of the feature film Sex And The City . After the station had "established itself well" on German television, the then managing director Katja Hofem-Best announced the new program for 2010/2011. Great importance is attached to first broadcasts, which should contribute up to 300 hours to the program. These include, for example, new seasons of 90210 , Brothers & Sisters , October Road and Damages - Im Netz der Macht . In addition to series and talk shows are soap operas of Sat.1 repeated; From September, for example , Sixx broadcast the daily soap One like none on weekdays in the afternoon program. In January 2011, Hand on Heart and Anna and Love followed , of which the weekly summary was shown. Both series were last broadcast on Sixx. This is how Anna and Love ended on April 13, 2012 after the telenovela had been on the station since January 30, 2012.

For 2011, the broadcaster decided to expand the range of feature films. From September 3, 2011, cartoon series such as Stories from the Fire Station or Puppy in My Pocket were also sold under the heading Cartoonito . However, the mix between series, feature films and documentaries will remain unchanged.

For the years 2012/13, the then sixx boss Hofem-Best announced several German free TV premieres, including series such as Ringer , Pan Am and Beautiful People . Many of the new series were mainly those that had already been sold in the US due to poor ratings.

reception

In 2012, according to the then managing director Hofem-Best, 30 million households received Sixx, the technical range is therefore around 80 percent.

Digital

Sixx can be received digitally via Astra 19.2 ° East and via all digital cable networks such as Pÿur , Unitymedia Kabel BW and Vodafone Kabel Deutschland , as well as via IPTV from Telekom Entertain , Vodafone TV and Swisscom .

Sixx has been receivable via DVB-T since August 1, 2011 in Berlin , Bremen / Unterweser , Hamburg , Kiel and Lübeck , since June 2013 in Munich and Nuremberg and since March 21, 2014 also in North Rhine-Westphalia .

SIXX HD

Since December 1, 2010, Sixx can also be seen on satellite reception via the HD + pay-TV subscription in HD format. The HD format is also available from cable network operators as a premium service.

From Good Friday to Easter Monday 2014 and Christmas 2014, the HD channels of what was then ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG could be received unencrypted.

Analogous

Analogue broadcasting via satellite took place from January 1, 2011 until the analogue satellite service was discontinued via the frequency of the station KiKA and thus replaced Astro TV from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Analogue cable distribution currently exists in Berlin , Erfurt , Magdeburg and Potsdam as well as in the broadcasting areas of Vodafone Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia Kabel BW, as the frequencies of the former sister channel 9Live were taken over on August 9, 2011.

Audience and market share

Sixx's market share.

Although the station's audience ratings have been measured since the beginning of the broadcast, they were not published until February 2011. The official reason given by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fernsehforschung was that the initially low level of awareness and the fact that the station is only available to customers after a search run on the receiving device would lead to major distortions in the start-up phase.

In February 2011, the broadcaster began to publish the ratings in order to attract more advertisers. On the first day of public ratings measurement, Sixx achieved a daily market share of 0.4% in the advertising-relevant target group , based on all TV households . If one only takes into account those households in which there was an actual reception possibility for the station, the market share was 1.1%.

On average, Sixx was able to double its market share to 1.0% in 2012. In 2017, the station had a market share of 1.2% among 14 to 49 year olds in Germany.
