PULS 24 is an Austrian private television broadcaster owned by ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE. The station's frequency was activated on August 1, 2019. For the time being, a notice board was shown, but later also short trailers that are supposed to give an insight into the program. The official start of broadcasting was on September 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

PULS 24 broadcasts exclusively in HD and, in contrast to its sister broadcasters PULS 4 and ATV , can be received unencrypted. The slogan of the station is "Life is Live".

history

ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE launched a news channel in Austria back in 2016 . The 4NEWS news channel started broadcasting on October 20, 2016. However, the 4NEWS channel was completely different from PULS 24 because it was only an HbbTV channel. That means it was like an app, so to speak. In order to receive the 4NEWS channel, the viewer needed an HbbTV-compatible television with an Internet connection. Markus Bacher, Director Distribution: "After launching the app of the same name, we are now launching the previously announced 4NEWS television station via the established HbbTV standard with" 4NEWS ". We are thus offering our users a 24-hour news offer. In addition, the content brand" 4NEWS "is already there linearly integrated into the transmitters PULS 4 and Kabel eins Doku Austria . "

With the new HbbTV channel, ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 offered advertisers a further innovative marketing channel to extend digital campaigns to the TV set.

However, today 4NEWS is no longer on TV, it was most likely retired sometime in 2018. The 24/7 HbbTV station 4MEDIATHEK now broadcasts on the former 4NEWS slot .

PULS 24 was first launched in the Zappn app at the end of May 2019. The plan was to start a " pop-up channel" for breaking news content. Already at the start it was announced that "Pop-Up" would not indicate an imminent end of the new channel. Managing director Markus Breitenecker announced that he wanted to expand the station in view of the 2019 National Council election .

At the end of August 2019 it was announced that the station would also be broadcast via antenna, cable and satellite in HD at no additional cost. The broadcast started on September 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen pressed the symbolic red button and officially started broadcasting.

Programming

Basically, it is not considered to run programs on two channels in the group in parallel. Exceptions to this are the Café Puls breakfast television and ten main evening election shows for the 2019 National Council election.

The station consists of two pillars, the first being the news area. The second pillar aims at political and socially relevant events in Austria and internationally. One such event is the "4Gamechanger Festival", which will be shown exclusively on PULS 24 in 2020. From demos to press conferences, digital conferences and festivals or balls, PULS 24 will cover everything.

In addition to three large studios that are to be recorded, five reporters are on the road across the country to enable live entry at any time.

Sports broadcasts

At the start of the new station, the station group secured new sports rights which will be broadcast on PULS 24. Starting October, an NFL game will be broadcast on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the NFL - which has been running on PULS 4 for a number of years, the European Youth League will also find a new home on PULS 24. Other sports that have not previously been the focus of the station group should also be tried out here.

Moderators

PULS24 - App

A corresponding app for iOS (operating system) and Android (operating system) is also available for the TV station . In addition to a live stream, there are other features such as "Trending Personalities". These are people in the public who can be "followed" as a user of the app. Thus current news about the person and the associated source are delivered. Self-produced videos and a news area are also part of the main component of the app.
