history

German Free TV Holding (2008-2010)

The ProSiebenSat.1 Sixth Management Company, founded on May 22, 2007, was renamed German Free TV Holding GmbH on January 2, 2008 (by resolution of December 27, 2007) .At the beginning of May 2008, ProSiebenSat.1 Media announced that it would coordinate the activities of the television stations Sat.1 , ProSieben , kabel eins and N24 in this holding company with immediate effect. Thus, kabel eins Fernsehen GmbH (until February 2008: Kabel 1 K1 Fernsehen GmbH ), N24 Gesellschaft für Nachrichten und Zeitgeschehen mbH , ProSieben Television GmbH and Sat.1 Satellite TV GmbH and thus indirectly also their subsidiaries of German Free TV Holding and no longer direct subsidiaries of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. (Although 9live was also a German broadcaster, 9live was not assigned to the holding company, but to the  Diversification  division.

In the course of this integration of all relevant German free TV stations into one company, their subsidiaries were also restructured. The subsidiaries Sat.1 Berlin Regional GmbH & Co. KG , Sat.1 Berlin Regional Verwaltungs GmbH and Sat.1 Boulevard TV GmbH were dissolved in their parent company Sat.1 Satellite TV GmbH in August 2008 . On November 13, 2008, ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG announced at a staff meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Berlin that it would move the headquarters of Sat.1 Satellite TV GmbH from Berlin to Unterföhring near Munich. Excluded from the relocation the Sat.1 central editorial that from January 2009 into a separate company with the name was production Maz & More TV transferred and the N24 Society of News and Current Affairs mbH was subordinated as a subsidiary. Furthermore, from July 1, 2009, the public relations work for the broadcasters Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins and N24 was bundled under the umbrella of German Free TV Holding under the direction of Petra Fink as Senior Vice President Communication . In January 2010, the broadcasters' entertainment and information areas followed, which were merged into the newly established cross-channel content areas Entertainment and Factual under the direction of Jobst Benthues as Senior Vice President Entertainment and Katja Hofem-Best as Senior Vice President Factual .

In November 2009, a new TV channel called Fem TV, targeting women in particular, was announced for spring 2010. Four months later the name was changed to sixx and the subsidiary sixx GmbH was founded on February 9, 2010. Sixx started broadcasting on May 7, 2010.

In the course of the final restructuring and reorganization of the German broadcasting group around Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins and N24, the management decided on March 22, 2010 to rename German Free TV Holding GmbH to ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH . This finally took place on April 7, 2010. The chairman of the management, Andreas Bartl , explained in a DWDL.de interview that the naming of the company in German Free TV Holding at that time was due to the necessity of “an initially purely formal legal vessel for the German broadcasting group, which had become necessary due to the merger of the ProSiebenSat.1 Media Group with the international SBS Broadcasting Group . "

In June 2010 the news channel N24 (N24 Gesellschaft für Nachrichten und Zeitgeschehen mbH) and its subsidiary Maz & More TV Produktion were sold to the newly founded N24 Media . The new owners included the then N24 managing director Torsten Rossmann and the former Der Spiegel editor-in-chief Stefan Aust , who each hold 26 percent of the shares. At the end of November 2009, a sale of the station had already been considered. The sale was justified by the fact that the television station was making a double-digit million loss per year. As a result, the ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland logo was changed.

Since the beginning of February 2011, SevenPictures Film GmbH , which co- produces German theatrical films and acquires their TV licenses for the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, has been part of ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH . Before that, it was a direct subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG .

Change of broadcasters (2012) as well as lawsuits against new Sat.1 license (since 2012)

On April 2, 2012, ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany applied for new approvals for the full television programs Sat.1, kabel eins and ProSieben and the specialty television program sixx from various state media authorities . The program approvals previously held by her subsidiaries should be bundled directly with her in order to act as the organizer herself. This is a media law adjustment. The Commission for authorization and supervision (ZAK) issued on 22 May 2012 for the three stations kabel eins, and sixx ProSieben new broadcast licenses and postponed the decision on Sat.1 first. The Commission to Determine Concentration in the Media Area (KEK) determined on June 12, 2012 that the approvals do not conflict with reasons to ensure diversity of opinion on television for all four broadcasters. The approvals have been in effect since January 1, 2013. The existing licenses were previously returned by the previous organizers.

The new broadcasting license for Sat.1 was only issued by the ZAK on June 26, 2012, as questions relating to the obligation to broadcast regional windows and third-party broadcasting times had to be clarified beforehand. Therefore, the approval period for Sat.1 would begin on June 1, 2013 in order to harmonize the license with the current license period for third-party broadcasting times . However, the State Center for Media and Communication Rhineland-Palatinate (LMK) and the Hessian State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (LPR) filed a lawsuit against the new license with the Schleswig Administrative Court in early August 2012 . In their opinion, a program broadcaster should not arbitrarily change the state media authority with an ongoing license and unchanged program. The fact that the license was formally transferred from the subsidiary Sat.1 Satellite TV to the parent company ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany does not change that . The LMK also sees a legal violation in Sat.1's waiver of the previous license: the broadcasting license is not the sole disposition of the organizer. Due to the third-party broadcasting times and in the interests of diversity of opinion, there would also be obligations for the broadcaster, so a waiver of the license was excluded. At the end of May 2013, the court dismissed the lawsuit against the new license. This was justified, among other things, by the fact that the majority of the ZAK approved the licensing by the Medienanstalt Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein (MA HSH). The decisions of the ZAK are binding on the other organs of the responsible media authority, since the ZAK is a body of the 14 German state media authorities. Likewise , the plaintiffs could not plead a violation of the provisions of the State Broadcasting Treaty on ensuring diversity of opinion. This follows from the fact that the KEK, which is solely responsible for this question, has already made a binding decision that there are no reasons for media concentration law that preclude the approval. Subsequently, the LMK and LPR appealed to the Schleswig Higher Administrative Court. However, at the end of November 2018, the lawsuits were again dismissed. However, the LMK laid in early May 2019 revision of the Federal Administrative Court one. The first hearing at the Federal Administrative Court was scheduled for the end of March 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany , the date has been postponed to mid-July 2020.

Expansion through new TV programs (2013)

At the end of August 2012, a new television station called Sat.1 Gold , which is intended to target an elderly female audience, was announced for the second half of 2013. About three months later, the station received a broadcasting license from the ZAK. It started broadcasting on January 17, 2013. The station, which is directly hosted by ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany , is supervised by the Thuringian State Media Authority (TLM). In mid-April 2013, the ZAK granted ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH approval to broadcast the new TV station ProSieben Maxx . The broadcasting license for the new entertainment channel, which was initially aimed at a male target audience between 40 and 59, was applied for from the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM). The broadcast started on September 3, 2013.

Expansion and dissolution of subsidiaries (2014-2019)

Logo of the former subsidiary 7Stories GmbH

Since January 2014 the creative agency Sugar Ray has belonged to ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH . It was founded in December 2011 and was a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Digital & Adjacent GmbH (or its subsidiary SevenVentures GmbH ). The agency was founded to enable smaller companies and customers who have not previously been on television to make TV spots. In August 2017, Sugar Ray GmbH merged with the parent company. Four months later, on December 15, 2017, ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland took control of 7Stories GmbH . She produced factual TV programs and moving image content (including advertising videos) for the ProSiebenSat.1 Group and other national and international media houses, digital platforms and companies. TV programs such as Galileo 360 ° (ProSieben Maxx), Lenßen clears up and Im Kopf des Verbrechers (both Sat.1 Gold) and Da Vinci - Die Welt des Wissens ( TV24 ) were produced by 7Stories , among others . In addition, she was responsible for sales within the ProSiebenSat.1 Group as well as to external customers. The company was founded as GmbH iG by ProSiebenSat.1 Broadcasting GmbH on December 10, 2015. From June 6, 2016 to December 14, 2017, 7Stories GmbH was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Red Arrow Entertainment Group GmbH . Just like Sugar Ray GmbH , 7Stories GmbH merged with ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany a short time later in September 2018 .

In the course of the new approvals in April / June 2012, the subsidiaries kabel eins Fernsehen , ProSieben Television and sixx were dissolved in their parent company ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland in December 2014 .

At the end of June 2016, the new Kabel eins Doku station received a ten-year broadcast license. It started broadcasting on September 22, 2016. The special interest broadcaster organized by ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland is supervised by the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein media authority.

In October 2018, the new received Quiz Show - App Quipp a perpetual program approved by the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting (BLM), since it is operated by a live broadcast on the Internet. The app started in November 2018.

In mid-October 2019, it was announced that ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany had applied for the new license for the ProSieben station from the Bavarian State Center for New Media. The reason for the change of state media authority was that a regulation of the new broadcasting amendment state treaty provides that the state media authority in whose area of responsibility the broadcaster is based should be responsible for new licenses. The new approval will be valid until December 31, 2027.

Merger to form SevenOne Entertainment Group (2020)

In mid-February 2020, the parent company ProSiebenSat.1 Media announced that its station brands, content, digital and marketing businesses will be bundled within the new subsidiary SevenOne Entertainment Group from summer 2020. The ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany with their stations, the marketer SevenOne Media and other entertainment areas as well as the production company Redseven Entertainment and parts of multi-channel Network Studio71 are under the umbrella of SevenOne Entertainment Group.

As part of this, ProSiebenSat.1 Entertainment GmbH merged with ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH at the end of April 2020 . Its subsidiaries include SevenOne Media GmbH , SevenOne Media (Schweiz) AG , ProSiebenSat.1Puls 4 GmbH , ProSiebenSat.1 Welt GmbH and wetter.com GmbH . The last four companies mentioned are the organizers of German-speaking television stations and streaming platforms , either directly or indirectly through other subsidiaries . In mid-June, there was a merger with ProSiebenSat.1 Advertising Platform Solutions GmbH .

Quipp

Quipp is a mobile application where you can win amounts of money in a live quiz show by answering questions. Since the competition program is regularly broadcast live in the app at a specified time, the program was approved by the Bavarian State Center for New Media on October 8, 2018 . While ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH is the applicant for approval and thus the organizer of the live broadcasts, ProSiebenSat.1 Digital GmbH is responsible for the application as well as the conceptual development and technical handling of the competition broadcasts.

It is a German version of the Austrian app of the same name. Quipp has been operated in Austria by ProSiebenSat.1Puls 4 GmbH since mid-November 2018 . Since then, the app has been in beta in Germany. The official start of the German version was in mid-December 2018. Both versions of the raffle programs are run by German and Austrian moderators.

The app is available for installation free of charge from the Google Play Store and the iTunes Store .

In addition to the regular editions, specials are organized on a (live) TV program by the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, such as The Voice of Germany , The Taste , The Masked Singer or Das große Backen . The questions therefore relate to these TV programs or the topic.

There are also shows that serve to earn additional Quipp points. The player receives 100 Quipp points for each correctly answered question, and only 50 after the first incorrect question. The points can be exchanged for extra lives, which can then be used in the programs.
