Reviews

"Tobias Wiemann's directorial debut convinces with black humor and eccentric - if sometimes quite clichéd - characters that you just have to love somehow .."

- Katharina Weiss in Die Welt Kompakt

"The story of an unusual love and a strange family in a well-known German capital: a German comedy in a balancing act between slapstick, romance and» street credibility «"

“After all, Großstadtklein seems to have a strategy: In an effort to be funny, entertaining and touching, the film simply tells a lot of stories at once, in the hope that something might get stuck. So that the audience doesn't get confused, the outcome of each of these stories can be expected, each character as one-dimensional and each joke as simple as possible. In addition, a few sentimental pop songs and exactly the postcard pictures of Berlin that everyone has seen somewhere, especially in German comedies. Nobody should be overwhelmed! No nasty surprises! Embrace the cliché! "

“BIG CITY SMALL is never hilarious. Here you have to do with a much finer sense of humor that conjures up a permanent grin on your face and keeps pushing the thought 'yes, I know that from somewhere' in your head. "

“This ' Boy Meets Girl ' comedy with city-country contrast and a broken family background doesn't come across as particularly profound , but it is entertaining and experienced, even if the script sometimes treads on the spot and most problems settle too quickly Dissolve country air. As is so often the case in German films, the actors whose scripts one would wish for even better scripts are strong. Above all, Jacob Matschenz convinces as a naive, mischievous village boy, and TV star Klaas Heufer-Umlauf also shows comic talent as a cheeky townsperson. You can also laugh heartily at the wonderfully boring Markus Hering and the always wonderfully changeable Tobias Moretti. "

“Grandpa's Puschenkino meets Til Schweiger. In his romantic culture clash comedy Grossstadtklein , debut director Tobias Wiemann walks confidently on the staging paths of his mentor Schweiger, but disappoints with an exaggerated and clichéd story. "
