Jump out of the clouds (original title: Ripcord , zu dt. Rip cord) is an American television series , of which 76 episodes were filmed between 1961 and 1963, initially in black and white, later in color. The ARD broadcast 48 half-hour episodes in the evening program.

overview

The show is about two skydivers , Jim and Ted, who run the Ripcord skydiving school, and the pilot Chuck Lambert and his plane, Old Betsy. The series showed a variety of adventures related to the then new sport of skydiving . The men and their aircraft got into unusual situations where the special knowledge and skills of the team were required. These could be criminal hunts as well as daring rescue operations, albeit at times absurd.

The skydiving stunts were performed by Bob Fleming and Joe Mangione. Fleming also acted as a pilot when he was not involved in a skydiving scene. The stunts were considered sensational and sometimes dangerous. For example, two planes collided during filming. At the beginning of each part, viewers were put in the mood for the dangerous stunts with the following words: “This is the series that shows the most dares on television. Every jump, every flight maneuver is real, recorded as it happened, without any tricks or illusions. Everything that stands between the jumper and death is his ripcord. "

Ken Curtis , who played the role of Jim , later gained greater prominence in the role of Festus Haggen in the western series Smoking Colts .

Well-known actors like Harry Carey, Jr. , Lee Van Cleef , Pat Conway , Richard Eastham , Lang Jeffries , Dayton Lummis , Tyler McVey and Denver Pyle have guest appearances on the series.

The series made small parachutist figures popular as toys that could be thrown into the air and sailed to the ground on a plastic parachute.
