Bruce Lorne Campbell (born June 22, 1958 in Royal Oak , Michigan ) is an American actor , film producer and writer . He became known for the lead role of Ash Williams in the horror series Tanz der Teufel , he also played in other films by Sam Raimi, such as Darkman (1990) and in the Spider-Man trilogy (2002-2007).

biography

Campbell was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Charles Newton Campbell and Joanne Louise Campbell (née Pickens). He also has an older brother and half-brother (Don Campbell and Michael Rendine). The family has Scottish roots.

From 1983 to 1989 he was married to Christine Deveau, with whom he has two children. Campbell currently resides in Jacksonville, Oregon with his wife, Ida Gearon, whom he met as a costume designer on the set of Mindwarp .

Campbell is also an ordained pastor and has conducted weddings.

Campbell was very interested in cinema in his youth and made some Super 8 films with his friends (including Sam Raimi and Scott Spiegel ). Over time, her budget grew, and Bruce and friends enjoyed modest success in their community. They made their breakthrough in 1981 with Evil Dead , which was originally to be called The Book of the Dead .

Between 2007 and 2013 Campbell starred as Sam Ax in the television series Burn Notice and in the accompanying television film The Fall of Sam Ax . From 2015 he stood in the series adaptation of Tanz der Teufel with the title Ash vs. Evil Dead on the cable channel Starz , again as Ash in front of the camera. On April 20, 2018, it was announced that the series would be discontinued after the third season.

Campbell is considered one of the icons of B-movie and sees it as fun. So he made fun of himself in his directorial work My Name Is Bruce .

Bruce Campbell was dubbed in German by Joachim Tennstedt , Ekkehardt Belle , Christian Tramitz , Ronald Nitschke and since 2007 in the television series Burn Notice by Stefan Fredrich .

Jan Spitzer took over his German voice in Ash vs Evil Dead . So his role as "Ash" in every part of the Tanz der Teufel series, including the series, is taken over by a different speaker.
