Maniac Cop 2 is an American horror film from 1990 and the first sequel to Maniac Cop , both of which were directed by William Lustig . A third part followed in 1993.

action

The zombie and maniac cop Matt Cordell, who was himself a police officer before his death, wants to get revenge on the cops who killed him. He also plans to hold the prisoners responsible, who beat him up in prison and who are responsible for his current condition. On this campaign of revenge he meets the murderer Stephen Turkell and together they commit several murders in New York City . Detective Sean McKinney and police psychologist Susan Riley try to stop them. McKinney wants to lure Cordell with a bait: Teresa Mallory, the girlfriend of a man Cordell has already killed. When a policewoman tries to bring the young woman to the station, Cordell attacks her. They flee in a taxi while Cordell chases them in a stolen police car. Mallory barely escapes but is later pronounced dead for her protection.

After Stephen Turkell is caught, it doesn't take long for his new friend to free him. Cordell goes to the police station where Turkell is arrested and shoots all police officers who stand in his way. Together with Turkell, his fellow prisoners Blum and Susan Riley as hostage, he moves on to Sing Sing . According to Turkell's plan, they want to free all serious criminals there and thus set up their own "army".

Detective Sean McKinney has seen through Cordell's plan, which is actually only on its way to justice, as he was betrayed by his own people at the time and had to go to jail for their corruption business and where he was mistreated by the inmates. McKinney sees the only way to stop Cordell is to rehabilitate him. He convinces Commissioner Edward Doyle that he will face up to his responsibilities, have the case against Cordell reopened and himself confess the corruption he is accused of. Cordell hears this news and breaks off the release of the prisoners. But since he has already arrived in prison, he turns to the inmates with whom he still has to settle accounts personally. They try to kill Cordell, but they fail. He, on the other hand, walks through the cells as a burning torch after the inmates have tried to set him on fire and hugs everyone who opposes him, including Turkell. He rushes out of the window with him and unplanned causes the police car to explode in the prison yard.

At a solemn funeral for the remains of Matt Cordell, he is officially granted rehabilitation. After the mourners have moved away from the still open grave, a hand penetrates the coffin from the inside.

Reviews

Kino.de assessed: “Black humor characterizes the action-packed continuation of the story about the deceived police officer Matt Cordell. The new film by the makers Larry Cohen [...] brings together Robert Davi ('James Bond 007 License to Kill'), Bruce Campbell ('Maniac Cop', 'Dance of the Devils II') and of course Robert Z'Dar as Cordell again a suitable crew in front of the camera. The result is a good genre product, the possibility of a third part is becoming apparent. A hard-boiled video premiere that should not only please the fans of the killer cop. "
