Robert John Davi (born June 26, 1951 in New York ) is an American actor and opera singer .

Life

The native New Yorker was enthusiastic about music and singing even as a child. As the winner of a US opera competition, he went to Italy to study with Tito Gobbi in Florence . At the age of 19 he made his debut with the Long Island Lyric Opera .

Davi began his acting career at the side of Frank Sinatra in the television film The Cherry Street Fiasco . After a number of guest appearances on series, Davi became known to a wider audience in 1985 through The Goonies . A year later he played alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Der City Hai . In 1988 the films Action Jackson and Die Hard followed . In License to Kill Davi was seen in 1989 as James Bond opponent Franz Sanchez . Other well-known films with Robert Davi are The Son of the Pink Panther , Hot Chick - Crazy Chickens and Showgirls . For the latter he was nominated in 1996 for the Anti-Prize Golden Raspberry as Worst Supporting Actor.

Robert Davi was best known on television for his Profiler series. He had guest appearances from 2005 to 2007 in the science fiction series Stargate Atlantis . Davi is close to the Republicans and spoke at the 2008 Republican National Convention . In 2009 he spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC
