Johann Conrad Develey
Johann Conrad Develey (born February 5, 1822 in Lindau on Lake Constance ; † 1886 in Munich ) is the founder of the Develey Senf & Feinkost company . He invented the Bavarian mustard .
biography
Develey grew up in Lindau, completed a commercial apprenticeship in Augsburg and came to Munich in 1844. In 1845 he founded a mustard factory in Kaufingerstrasse in Munich, where he initially produced French mustard. In 1854 he invented sweet mustard, which consisted of spicy Dijon mustard , caramelized sugar, brandy vinegar and a secret mixture of spices. In 1873 he received the medal of progress at the world exhibition in Vienna . From 1874 Develey was allowed to call himself “ Royal Bavarian Court Supplier ”, and his customers included members of the Bavarian royal family such as Otto von Bayern and Luitpold von Bayern .

Develey died in 1886 and was buried in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich (grave field 20 - row 4 - place 3/4; location ) together with his wife Louise (1820–1885, née Ehrl).

The couple had two children Emil (1853–1880) and Regina (1857–1918, married Werter). The title “Kgl. Bavarian Court Supplier ”adorns his tombstone.
