action

Dean Burch, head of the little-known Lepetomane University, has several problems. On the one hand, his institution has had a reputation for years as the worst university in the whole country. On the other hand, Lepetomane accommodates several students who could hardly change this situation. This includes long-term student Bob McGraw, who has been at the facility for 12 years and spends his life more with parties and women than with school books. Burch puts the pistol on McGraw's chest and forces him to take part in a rubber dinghy race between several universities with a group of other losers: if Lepetomane wins, McGraw and his colleagues receive the degree in the form of a doctorate of their choice, but if they lose they would be de-registered. For better or worse, McGraw agrees and sets off with his team - consisting of the corpulent Gonzer, would-be Casanova Max and Irwin, the snake - to compete on a wild, flowing mountain river.

There the four immediately encounter the other sporting competition in the form of the pretty Heather, leader of the team at a girls' college, whom Bob immediately falls in love with. However, Heather is still in a relationship with the snotty Rex, the leader of the rowing team at posh Ivy University. In the actual competition, Bob and his friends quickly notice that they are working with unfair means. On the one hand, the Ivy boys are sabotaging him and other boats. a. Rex Bob after the affair with Heather. On the other hand, last year's winners of a military academy are running the demolition of the entire race after Bob thwarted an attempted sabotage by their commander - Captain Braverman - and this was subsequently suspended.

Despite all the adversities, Bob and his team manage to slowly push themselves to the top and can even beat the Ivy rowers at night while they are partying. That same night the cadets kidnap Irwin on Braverman's orders. Bob's troop then decide to look for Irwin from the river while their dog Chuck looks for him on land. They meet Heather, who had to leave her boat after a torpedo hit by the Ivy crew, and take her with them. Before they approach the Ivy crew, Chuck brings them ashore, who has been able to find Irvin in the meantime.

The troops then confront the cadets and give them a hard time. It turns out that the cadets have bombed the entire river. When the troops reunite with Irwin and Heather, Braverman detonates the explosives with his last bit of strength and diverts the river into a much more dangerous route with violent rapids . The Lepetomane troop, which has since turned out to be an association of true rowing talents, overcomes the rapids and reaches the old river again shortly before the finish. They quickly notice that they have landed in front of the Ivy team and set a course for their destination. Rex - who was already certain of victory - and the rest of those present can only watch as the Lepetomane rowers make it over the finish line and win the race. Heather and Bob kiss and then remain a couple.
