Hawaii Five-Zero (original title: Hawaii Five-O ) is an American crime series , of which a total of 279 episodes of 45 minutes each were created between 1968 and 1980. The naming five-zero alludes to Hawaii as the 50th state of the USA, which was added in 1959  .

The series was shot almost entirely in Hawaii; Countless locals were involved in the production in front of and behind the camera. Jack Lord chasing James Bond through the James Bond film Dr. No , is still revered as a national hero in Hawaii today.

action

The main character of this series, Steve McGarrett, is the head of a special police force whose job it is to take action against organized crime in Hawaii . He and his assistant Danny Williams report directly to the Governor of Hawaii. They are assisted in their investigations and operations by colleagues from the Honolulu Police .

Charisma

In Germany, Das Erste showed 26 episodes of the series in 1971 and 1972. The remaining episodes, with the exception of two episodes never broadcast in Germany, ran around 20 years later on ProSieben and then on the cable channel at the time . Further repetitions followed, a high-resolution broadcast took place from 2009 to 2010 on Anixe HD and, starting with season 5, from February 2013 on AXN .

Soundtrack

The composer of theme music and score Morton Stevens was able to win two Emmy Awards (1970 and 1974) for individual episodes of this series in addition to a nomination (1969) . Also, The Ventures benefited from the popularity and occupied with their version of the theme song 1969 # 4 on the US charts .

Remake

From 2010 to 2020, the then executive broadcaster CBS produced and broadcast a remake of the series under the title Hawaii Five-0 .

The unit was mentioned in the episode 2x10 exit with pitfalls of the television series Magnum by TC at the bar. In the episode 1x06 The Played Death , Magnum pretends to be a member of the unit in a radio message.
