Morton Stevens

Morton Stevens , born in Morton Aaron Suckno (born January 30, 1929 in Newark , New Jersey , † November 11, 1991 in Encino , California ) was an American composer .

biography

Morton Stevens graduated from the Juilliard School with a degree in composition in 1950 . As arranger and conductor of Sammy Davis Jr. , Stevens made his entry into show business in the early 1950s. He later worked in the same capacity with Jerry Lewis , Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and Liza Minnelli . From the early 1960s, Stevens made his debut as a film composer for several television series and the western The Rough Riders of Texas . Stevens achieved greater national and international fame with his theme music for the television series Hawaii Five-Zero . In addition to the theme music, he also composed for 57 episodes and won his only two Emmy Awards in 1970 and 1974 , with a total of over ten nominations.

Stevens died on November 11, 1991 at the age of 62 of complications from a pancreatic tumor . He was survived by his wife and their two children.
